Danglers F.C. vs. Marlo Angling Club
The first weekend of March (7th-9th) saw the annual showdown between Danglers F.C. and Marlo Angling Club, set against the stunning backdrop of Marlo’s estuary and surf. This year’s trip was spectacular, with perfect weather, fierce competition, and camaraderie that made it a weekend to remember.
Saturday: Bream Challenge in the Estuary
Kicking off with the Bream Challenge, the estuary system was alive with anticipation. The weather was ideal conditions for fishing. The early morning proved fruitful for the Danglers, with the three-man crew on boat Reuben netting some impressive bream. Their skill and teamwork set the tone for the weekend, reeling in the fish and bragging rights. Saturday night wrapped up at the Marlo Angling Clubhouse on the foreshore, where the Danglers showed off their culinary prowess. Members whipped up a beautiful meal, fueling everyone for the next day’s battle and fostering the warm spirit of rivalry and friendship.
Sunday: Surf Competition Glory
Sunday greeted us with another flawless day and a beautiful sunrise. The surf competition was electric, and Marcel stole the show, landing a cracking salmon on his very first cast. Talk about setting the bar high!
Sunday Night: Victory and Celebration
The weekend culminated in the Sunday night presentation, where Danglers F.C. swept the board, clinching both the Bream Challenge Shield and the Surf Challenge Trophy. Adding to the excitement, an internal competition saw Marcel take first place, followed by Gasen in second and Anton in third. The night ended on a high note with another delicious meal prepared by the Danglers crew, a fitting close to a weekend of triumphs and good company.
